Africa is abundant with life, as our contestants know, and presents boundless opportunities for keen birders to spot thousands of different species. Our reserves are full of magnificent big cats, smaller quirky creatures and majestic elephants but there are those adventurers who are searching the trees and not the plains. For these photographers, it’s African birds they’re looking for, sometimes for days, needing to capture the moment before it disappears.
Our Africa’s Photographer of the Year competition has seen a plethora of entries in the past few months from all over the world. Now our competition is nearing its end with our Wildlife Portraits category closing at the end of September. We already have two category winners, each entered into the draw for a luxury African safari. Read below to enjoy some of the last entries before the winner of the category is announced. We showcase our top picks of African birds, ranging from colourful visitors to fierce birds of prey.
Lilac Breasted Roller
Gray-headed Kite
Meyer’s Parrot
